SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On 05/30/21 at approximately 1915 hours, Vermont State Police were notified of a single vehicle car crash on Interstate 91, in the area of Exit 13 in the Town of Norwich, VT. The vehicle was identified as a 2008 Volkswagon Rabbit and was being operated by Benjamin M. Grottole of Colchester, CT. The vehicle was also occupied by a single passenger, David S. Ashley of Colchester, CT.
Grottole’s vehicle was traveling south on Interstate 91 in the area of mile marker 76. The vehicle left the roadway, traveling into the median and collided with an electronic sign cart that was position in the U turn. This caused significant damage to the vehicle which came to rest in the median. Grottole received no injuries, however Ashley was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for incapacitating injures.
At the time of the crash the weather consisted of a moderate rain and the roadways were wet. Standing water was observed in the roadway in the area of the crash.
The operator was screened and processed Driving under the Influence – Drugs.
This case remains under investigation and no action has been determined at this time.
