Here is another crash because someone ( in this case a 21 year old kid from out of state) was driving too fast on icy/snow covered roads. He got a ticket for driving too fast for the conditions and no doubt his insurance premiums will increase. Just as sure as the sun will rise each morning people will drive too fast on icy and snow coverage roads, crash into another vehicle and cause death, injuries and property damage.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On February 9, 2021 at approximately 1735 hours, Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks responded to the area of the Highest Elevation on US Route 7 in the Town of Shaftsbury for a report of a two-car motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that vehicle #1 was travelling north on US Route 7 at a speed of approximately 60 MPH when the operator, Jefferson Luce (21) of Philadelphia, PA, lost control of the vehicle. Vehicle #1 began to slide and crossed over the centerline into the southbound lane. Vehicle #1 then struck Vehicle #2 which was travelling southbound at approximately 50 MPH. The posted speed limit in this area of US Route 7 is 55 MPH.
Both vehicles were totaled as a result of the crash. Hempel was transported to an area hospital via ambulance to be evaluated for her injuries. Luce was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for driving too fast for conditions pursuant to Title 23 VSA 1081(a). Road conditions were deemed to be a contribution factor in this collision.
The Vermont State Police was assisted on scene by the Bennington Police Department, Bennington Rescue, Shaftsbury Fire Department, and Southern Vermont Auto.
